While young tennis phenom Melanie Oudin lost soundly in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open late yesterday, her stay was far beyond anyone’s expectations. If indicated by nothing else, her well-publicized, mid-tournament change of hotels told the story.
Details vary according to which account one reads. Early reports said she was booted from her hotel in Times Square. Later ones said the hotel would not extend her reservation at the same lower rate she had booked earlier — so she relocated to another.
Either way, she clearly exceeded expectations. It is always a good day when one accomplishes more than anticipated — whether before glaring lights and cheering crowds or in the mundane activities of daily living.
