MACON, Ga. — Ben McDade, executive vice president for development and marketing for Baptists Today, has accepted a position with Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga., leading development programs, effective July 15. He came to Baptists Today in 2012 after 10 years with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Baptists Today,” said McDade. “It has been a privilege to work with my friend John Pierce and a wonderful board of directors. The mission of Baptists Today is a vital one and the ministry of Baptists Today is greatly appreciated across the broad Baptist landscape.”
McDade, a two-time graduate of the University of South Carolina who earlier worked in advancement at Mercer University, said he is looking forward to serving again in higher education.
“While we are disappointed to see Ben leave Baptists Today, we do wish him well,” said Don Brewer, a lay leader in First Baptist Church of Gainesville, Ga., and chair of the Baptists Today board of directors. “We will always be grateful for the time he has spent with us and for instituting a strong foundation for our future development.”
Baptists Today is a national news journal that emphasizes editorial freedom and coverage of issues, trends and ministries impacting congregational life. Key leaders within moderate Baptist life, both laity and clergy, comprise the nonprofit organization’s independent board of directors.
The 31-year-old ministry expanded in recent years to publish books and produce church resources under the Nurturing Faith imprint. Baptists Today is supported by gifts from individuals and organizations that share the values of a free press, and intelligent and inspiring Bible studies, books and other resources.
McDade has helped expand both the scope of the work and the support base, said Baptists Today Executive Editor John Pierce.
“Ben is a strategic thinker and planner, as well as a dear friend,” said Pierce. “I will miss working closely with him in expanding the important work of Baptists Today and our Nurturing Faith resources. However, Ben’s time with us will have a lasting impact as we continue to move forward with this publishing venture.”
