In an effort to combat false images of Jesus as a white man, the Mennonite Central Committee has designed a new poster inviting “people of color to examine their ideas about Jesus’ identity.”
The poster, which depicts Christ’s skin color in varying shades from olive to dark brown, asks the question: “Who do you say that Jesus is?”
“For too long Christians have used images of a white Jesus to perpetuate racism,” the poster states. “When people of color believe the distorted message that Jesus is white, our images of ourselves and of Jesus also become distorted.”
This poster encourages people of color to reclaim an image of Jesus that brings healing and wholeness, according to MCC.
