The warm up to the 2015 Baptist World Congress is underway at the International Convention Center in Durban, South Africa, with meetings Tuesday and Wednesday of the BWA Executive Committee, outgoing General Council (2010-2015), and incoming General Council (2016-2020).

Effective with this meeting, John Upton of Virginia concludes his five years of service as president, and Paul Msiza of South Africa takes up the leadership reins for the next quinquennium.

More than 2,000 persons pre-registered for the event, with others registering onsite.

The BWA Congress, held every five years, begins in earnest with an opening celebration tonight. This is the 21st BWA Congress, but the first to be held on the continent of Africa.
