A California grandmother is spearheading a two-day boycott of the state’s public schools to protest new laws that social conservatives decry as homosexual indoctrination.

Joy Stutz urged California parents to keep their kids home today and tomorrow to protest two new laws recently signed into law by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. One, SB 777, bans discrimination in instruction. The other, AB 394, mandates anti-harassment training. Both laws take effect in January.

“What that effectively did was open the door wide that the children in the public schools–all public schools in California–will be indoctrinated with the homosexual agenda, beginning with age 5 on up,” Stutz said in an interview on One News Now.

Stutz predicted the new laws would tremendously change the “color” of schools, “because they will no longer be able to have a reference of ‘mommy and daddy’ as being a normal family.”

“It will now be taught that it is perfectly normal to have two mommies and two daddies,” she said.

Stutz believes a mass boycott will get the attention of state officials.

“A two-day boycott is doable for most parents, and will launch a much-needed revolution against these atrocious new laws,” Stutz said in a press release. “Remember, it only takes a spark to get a fire going.”

One conservative public-policy organization has organized a petition drive seeking 700,000 signatures to allow citizens an opportunity to overturn the laws in a voter referendum.

“This is an outrageous piece of legislation,” Karen England, executive director of the Capitol Resource Institute, said Oct. 27 on “The Albert Mohler Radio Program.”

England said the issue should be of concern to all Americans and not just Californians. “What happens in California doesn’t stay in California,” she said.

England said she believes given the opportunity, California voters will reject the change. “We are not as liberal and anti-family as many people believe,” she said, but Los Angeles and San Francisco dominate the media. “We are trying to stand for the rest of California families who haven’t had a voice,” she said.

Mohler, the president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, said non-Californians had “better worry about,” the law, because California is “an engine for social experimentation that spreads eventually from coast to coast.”

Mohler, who has called for responsible Southern Baptist parents to develop and “exit strategy” from public schools, noted that California is the single largest state market in the textbook industry. “People writing textbooks are going to want them to be bought in California,” he said, and those same books will also be sold elsewhere.

Some Californians are already calling for parents to withdraw completely from public schools.

“When you can no longer protect your children, you must remove them from a threatening environment,” said Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families.

Stutz agreed that if necessary, responsible parents should flee public schools and either place their children in private schools or teach them at home. “If this law stands, we must pull our children out of public schools, yes.” she said.
