Here’s a deal: What if you could soak in some remarkable American music and then gain insights from a most-thoughtful theologian?

That’s exactly what is being planned for Thursday evening, April 21, in Birmingham, Ala.
The Judson-Rice Dinner honoring Dr. Fisher Humphreys will be held at Mountain Brook Baptist Church, 3631 Montevallo Road, South. A reception and registration will begin at 5:30pm with the dinner and program at 6:00pm.
Multi-instrumentalist and composer Bobby Horton, who collaborated with director Ken Burns on documentary series including The Civil War, Baseball and The National Parks, will perform.
He’ll be joined by baritone Bill Bugg, retired from the music faculty of Samford University, to provide outstanding and humor-infused American folk music.
The annual Judson-Rice Award from Nurturing Faith will be presented to Dr. Humphreys, professor of theology, emeritus, from Samford’s Beeson Divinity School.
He is the author of numerous books including Thinking About God, The Death of Christ, Fundamentalism (with Philip Wise), and God So Loved the World.
Always incisive, challenging and hopeful, Dr. Humphreys will share insights following the award presentation.
