The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has published “A 60-Day Journey Toward Justice in a Culture of Gun Violence” to help people of faith respond to the prevalence of gun violence in the U.S.
To guide participants through the 60 days, a reading or resource is provided each day, which might include a prayer, hymn, reflection, ELCA statement, data point or link to additional information.
The guide begins on June 16 and continues through Aug. 17, but the ELCA noted that it can be used anytime.
“In some ways, we have become inured to gun violence. We must become re-sensitized. This 60-day resource of prayer, Scripture, church teaching and information bids us to face the painful truth about gun violence and to work for its prevention through the message of Christ for the sake of the gospel,” the guide’s introduction says.
“We hope this resource will help guide us as a community of believers to follow Jesus’ call to be peacemakers, to pursue justice and to protect the vulnerable.”
