Two EthicsDaily.com documentaries were recently honored as Telly Award recipients.
“GospelWithoutBorders” and “SacredTexts, SocialDuty” won a Silver and Bronze Telly, respectively, in the film/video category (non-broadcast) for religion/spirituality.
The Telly Awards were founded in 1978 by DavidE. Carter, a Clio and Emmy winner with a career spanning TV production, advertising and book publishing.
Telly Awards honor film and video productions, web commercials and TV programs.
The Telly Awards program now receives about 11,000 entries annually. Roughly 10 percent of entries are awarded the Silver Telly and 25 percent are awarded the Bronze.
Judges come from previous Telly Award recipients.
“Judges evaluate entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other. Instead, entries are judged against a high standard of merit,” according to the TellyAwardswebsite, which adds that “judges may award top honors to more than one entry or no entries in a particular category.”
Other 2011 winners include programs airing on History, ESPN, AMC, USA, Bravo, CNBC and E! Entertainment, as well as programs produced for organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Target, TIAA-CREF, Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
“Gospel Without Borders” focuses on faith and immigration and highlights stories in five states: Arizona, Arkansas, North Carolina, Alabama and Iowa.
It has been screened across the country and distributed in bulk by Catholic and Methodist bishops. Long and short versions of the documentary are available on a single DVD.

EthicsDaily.com announced in late March that “Gospel Without Borders” will also screen during the Democratic National Convention in September in Charlotte, N.C.
“Sacred Texts, Social Duty” is an hour-long documentary that explores how Jewish, Christian and Muslim people of faith read their sacred texts and what they say morally about taxation.
A 20-minute cut of the film will be shown at the BaptistCenterforEthicsluncheon at the 2012 CBF general assembly in Fort Worth, Texas, in June.
