A new EthicsDaily.com short video will be broadcast during the opening session of NewBaptistCovenant 2 on Nov. 17 at Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Atlanta, the anchor site for the second national gathering of goodwill Baptists.
In Atlanta 2008, 15,000 attendees from 31 different Baptist denominational bodies and groups came together for fellowship, worship and collaboration under the heading of the New Baptist Covenant (NBC), including American Baptist Churches-USA, Canadian Baptist Ministries, National Baptist Convention USA Inc. and Progressive National Baptist Convention.

Former President Jimmy Carter convened the 2008 meeting and called for the 2011 follow-up event scheduled for later this week.

EthicsDaily.com’s 7-minute video highlights Luke 4:18-19, noting that some Baptists have watered down and spiritualized Jesus’ agenda while other Baptists have been bolder.

It cites Baptist historian Walter Rauschenbusch, who said the text was Jesus’ “pronunciamento and platform for Christianity,” and Baptist civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., who said the church is called to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

The video gives voice to African-American, Anglo and Hispanic Baptists who speak to racism, immigration, the environment, taxation and religious liberty.

The Baptist voices include Jimmy Carter, John Grisham, AidsandWrightRiggins, William Buchanan, Will Campbell, Ellin Jimmerson, Wayne Flynt, Martha Villaneuva, Javier Elizondo, Marilyn Turner, LarryGreenfield, WendellGriffen and JoePhelps.

The short video will be available for viewing on the front page of EthicsDaily.com on Friday evening. To view a teaser, click here.

Satellitefeeds will connect Baptists at seven regional gatherings to the Atlanta site. Other churches will be connected through streamingvideo on the Internet.
