Maralene and Miles Wesner, the latest Nurturing Faith book authors, seek to build bridges between the spiritual and the intellectual worlds.
Known for their no-nonsense style, clear illustrations and willingness to face controversial issues, together they have published more than 30 books, as well as many articles and studies.
“Sermons for Special Days,” their latest book, is now available in the Good Faith Media bookstore.
Organized around specific observances and holidays – both religious and cultural – the book provides five sermons each for New Year’s, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, graduation, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
There is also a miscellaneous section that includes six total sermons related to several other occasions and holy days.
“Special days often attract the greatest church attendance and thus offer the greatest opportunity for outreach. Unfortunately, many holiday and seasonal messages are shallow and sentimental,” the Wesners said.
“These sermons were developed with three goals in mind: appropriateness, depth, and psychological soundness. We hope this collection of our most meaningful and successful ‘celebration services’ will be useful to others. They are highly adaptable and require a minimum amount of preparation.”
