Chris George is pastor of Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
- Where did you grow up?
I was born in Paducah, Kentucky, and spent my childhood in New Orleans, St. Louis and Greenville, South Carolina.
- What is your favorite verse, book or story in the Bible? Why?
John 1:47.
It may be the greatest compliment ever paid.
- What is your favorite movie? Why?
“The King’s Speech.”
As a child, I had a speech impediment (unable to pronounce the letter “r”). My life was changed by the work of a patient teacher who saw not just a problem, but a person with potential.
- Who are three people you admire?
Jennifer George (my wife), Fred Craddock and Mike Jones (former administrator at Shorter College and assistant editor for Christian Index).
- What is one little-known fact about yourself?
I really struggle with names. After getting engaged, I was still unsure how to spell my fiance’s last name: Loniewski. After the birth of my first son, my wife and I debated for two days before finally settling on a name for him: David Michael.
