Erica Whitaker is senior pastor of Buechel Park Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky.

  • Where did you grow up?

I grew up in multiple homes across multiple states. The three places I claim as childhood homes is a farm outside of Wichita, Kansas; a little house with a pool near Denver; and our family ranch just north of Brownwood, Texas.

  • What is your favorite verse, book or story in the Bible? Why?

The prophetess Deborah is my favorite character and story.

She’s a fierce feminist who fails miserably and yet leads the people of God with grace and humility.

  • What is your favorite movie? Why?

“Fight Club.”

Our greatest monster we all must befriend and overcome is the one living within each us. I just wish mine looked more like Brad Pitt.

  • Who are three people you admire?

Muhammad Ali, Lucille Ball and Parker Palmer.

  • What is one little-known fact about yourself?

I’ve recently written a fantasy novel about inner monsters, the Enneagram and two female Catholic priests who fight against patriarchy in the 21st century.
