Fred Andrea is pastor of First Baptist Church of Aiken, South Carolina.

1. Where did you grow up?

I was born in Greenville, South Carolina, and grew up in the upstate, living also in Seneca, Spartanburg and Aiken.

2. What is your favorite verse, book or story in the Bible? Why?

Romans 8:28.

Through the joys and sorrows of my life, I have been sustained by the power of its real truth about nature and activity of our gracious, loving God.

3. What is your favorite movie? Why?

“To Kill a Mockingbird.”

The quiet persistence, integrity and moral compass of Atticus Finch modeled so forcefully for me “a man worth his salt” that it was almost enough to lead me to become a lawyer.

4. Who are three people you admire?

Martin Luther King Jr., C.S. Lewis and Frederick Buechner.

5. What is one little-known fact about you?

During my freshman year in college, my parents moved to Aiken, where we became members of Aiken’s First Baptist Church. Although it is not my home church, I preached my first sermon there and was licensed to the ministry there. Who could have imagined that 20 years later I would become pastor there?
