Keith Herron is the senior pastor of Holmeswood Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri, and is a board member of the Baptist Center for Ethics. He has recently accepted the call to pastor the St. Lucas UCC congregation in St. Louis.

1. Where did you grow up?

Garland, Texas, a suburb of Dallas.

2. What is your favorite Bible verse, book or story? Why?

John 13:3-4.

It reminds me that what we say is rightly overshadowed by what we do, à la St. Francis: “Preach always. If necessary, use words.”

3. What is your favorite movie? Why?

“It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.”

Its unbelievable historic ensemble of comics stretching from vaudeville to motion pictures to television, from silent films to talkies to the big screen, and from black-and-white to color.

4. Who are three of the people you admire?

Bill Moyers, Cormac McCarthy and Maya Angelou.

5. What is one little known fact about yourself?

As a high school senior, I traveled to Washington, D.C., for 24 hours for the July 4th Honor America Day on H. Ross Perot’s dime.
