Libby Mae Grammer is senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Martinsville, Virginia.
- Where did you grow up?
I am a minister of music’s kid, so we moved a lot, but I grew up mostly in and around northern Georgia and southern Tennessee, though I spent three years in New Mexico as well.
- What is your favorite verse, book or story in the Bible? Why?
1 Samuel 3 – Samuel’s call from God.
That repetitive reminder to listen to God’s call on one’s life was my reality for many years.
- What is your favorite movie? Why?
“Ever After”
It is a beautiful Cinderella retelling that involves a well-read woman taking care of herself and her family, who overcomes so many odds against her and those like her – the poor; she ends up finding love and convincing others to take her seriously in the process.
- Who are three people you admire?
Three groups of people I admire are my parents, Brenda and Rick Grammer; my professors and ministry mentors who helped me navigate my call to ministry; and all of the women in ministry who have paved the way for my being a senior pastor.
- What is one little-known fact about yourself?
I’m a vegetarian photographer who loves to hike and drink good coffee (with cream and sugar).
