1. Where did you grow up?
Prattville, Alabama.
2. What is your favorite Bible verse, book or story? Why?
One of my favorites is the story of Pentecost in Acts 2.
The “holy chaos” that it describes – tongues of fire, the sound of a rushing and violent wind, prophesying women and accusations of drunkenness – reminds me that God’s ways don’t always make sense and that is a thing of beauty to be celebrated.
3. What is your favorite movie? Why?
I don’t have a favorite movie, but my favorite TV series is “Gilmore Girls.”
From the witty banter to the mother-daughter bonding, this show allows me space to laugh, to cry, to reflect and, honestly, to escape.
4. Who are three of the people you admire?
Ann Hasseltine Judson, Helen Barrett Montgomery (American social reformer, educator and author who served as the first woman president of the Northern Baptist convention) and Elizabeth Cady Stanton (American social activist, abolitionist and early leader of the women’s rights movement).
5. What is one little known fact about yourself?
I once caught on fire at the home of Curtis Freeman, research professor of theology and Baptist studies at Duke University.
