  • Where did you grow up?

In a small town called Newmilns in Ayrshire, Scotland, where my father’s family had lived for generations; some of my relatives still live in the area.

  • What is your favorite verse, book or story in the Bible? Why?

I love the story of Joseph.

It is such a psychologically astute story of human weakness, failure and success, family strife and forgiveness, whose final message is that God can use our mistakes and turn them around for good.

  • What is your favorite movie? Why?

“The Fisher King.”

It is a version of the Arthurian grail story and is full of compassion for people with mental health problems.

  • Who are three people you admire?

Thomas Merton, mezzo-soprano Dame Janet Baker, and people who overcome drug and alcohol addictions.

  • What is one little-known fact about yourself?

I have visited Murmansk in northern Russia twice.
