1. Where did you grow up?

I was born in London, England, and was raised in Sudbury, Ontario, and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

2. What is your favorite Bible verse, book or story? Why?

The book of Samuel.

I was named after Samuel, and the story of him as a boy being unexpectedly addressed by God is something to which I aspire—to live a life that says, “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.”

3. What is your favorite movie? Why?

I don’t have one particular favorite, but I loved “The Matrix.”

It had so much resonance with the Christian story: reality versus illusion, free will versus determinism, a savior-figure that needs to rescue us from our illusory living, real-life versus pretend-life.

4. Who are three of the people you admire?

William Wilberforce, Henri Nouwen and Bill Hybels.

5. What is one little known fact about yourself?

I am a bit of a coffee snob, grinding beans fresh for each cup and with a strong preference for darker, smokier roasts.
