1. Where did you grow up?

Union Grove, Alabama (near Huntsville).

2. What is your favorite verse, book or story in the Bible? Why?

Luke 15:11-32.

When I read “The Return of the Prodigal Son” by Henri Nouwen, I understood this parable about God’s unconditional love and grace in a different way. The call to “become like the father” inspires my discipleship.

3. What is your favorite movie? Why?

I can’t say I have one favorite movie, but I enjoy action films and love it when the good guys win.

4. Who are three people you admire?

Jimmy Carter, Richard Rohr and Parker Palmer.

5. What is one little-known fact about yourself?

I enjoy putting my manual skills to good use (carpentry, finish work, plumbing, electrical and so on). I helped my dad build a house when I was in high school. My wife, Joan, and I built our first house after seminary. And now I’m helping my son renovate his house.
