Terry Smith is executive director of Canadian Baptist Ministries.

1. Where did you grow up?

I was a cross-border kid, spending the first 10 years in Toronto, then eight years in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before returning to Ottawa, Canada, for university.

2. What is your favorite verse, book or story in the Bible? Why?

Matthew 22:37-40.

The greatest commandment is to love God and love your neighbor. It was sure important to Jesus, when he was asked a similar question.

3. What is your favorite movie? Why?

“The Usual Suspects.”

Its crazy intrigue and twists play with the viewer till the end.

4. Who are three people you admire?

Glenn Smith (my older brother), Russ Van Ryn (my pastor when I was a teenager) and Bob Berry (former general secretary of Canadian Baptist Ministries).

5. What is one little-known fact about yourself?

I was living in the south of France during the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in April 1986, and I lost my thyroid gland due to radioactive fallout.
