Across the nation and different traditions, a thousand religious leaders have signed a statement offering a faith-based response to terrorism, according to Sojomail, an Internet newsletter from Sojourners magazine.
“In the name of God, we too demand that those responsible for these utterly evil acts be found and brought to justice,” the statement read.
It said, “But we must not, out of anger and vengeance, indiscriminately retaliate in ways that bring on even more loss of innocent life.”
Sojomail said the statement had been sent to The White House and Congress. It called the statement a “powerful tool … in forging a public dialogue on America’s moral leadership.”
