Have you thought about your cannonball?
If you’re frustrated with your ability to impact the world as you wish, maybe it’s because you haven’t paid attention to your cannonball.

So says Sam Davidson, a Nashville-based author, speaker and social entrepreneur, in a new Skype interview with EthicsDaily.com.

Davidson says a social entrepreneur is “someone who is trying to fix some kind of problem in the world through a business or a market-based or a for-profit solution.”
He cites Toms, which gives a pair of shoes to a child that needs one every time a pair is purchased, as an example.

Davidson co-founded Cool People Care in 2006 as a way to connect people who want to do good with organizations that are already making an impact. He now writes and speaks on this and similar topics.

“Those of us who are frustrated,” says Davidson, “and we’re not sure if we’re making an impact, or we’re not sure how, we can start thinking about, well, who do I want to impact deeply, and then how can I also find folks to impact broadly that could then lead to some deeper impact down the road?”

Davidson says people need to think about their “cannonball,” which he discusses in a couple of different ways and applies to a person’s impact on others.

He also discusses the idea of balance, favoring the image of a gymnast on a balance beam over the image of a scale.
