(BWA) – The next meeting of the Baptist World Congress will be held in South Africa in 2015, according to the Baptist World Alliance.
Neville Callam, BWA general secretary, made the announcement during the BWA Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, July 27. The committee is one of several BWA bodies that met before the start of the 20th Baptist World Congress in Honolulu from July 28 to this Sunday, Aug. 1.
The meeting will be held in Durban, South Africa, in July 2015.
Paul Msiza, president of the All Africa Baptist Fellowship and general secretary of the South Africa Baptist Convention, was delighted that South Africa had been chosen to host the next meeting of the largest international gathering of Baptist Christians.
“It will be an honor to the Baptists of South Africa and to Africa to host the Baptist World Congress,” Msiza said. He indicated that hosting the recent FIFA World Cup, the most widely viewed sporting event in the world, which was held in South Africa from June 11 to July 11, provided South Africa with good experience to host Baptists from around the world.
“You will enjoy South African hospitality,” Msiza said. He noted that travelling to South Africa will be affordable and much easier since more airlines have opened up routes to the country with the World Cup.
Approximately 4,000 Baptists from 105 countries are gathering in Honolulu for the 20th Baptist World Congress.
