Who’s your favorite TV mom? Carol Brady? Elyse Keaton? Florida Evans? A recent survey revealed that Americans’ favorite TV mom is none other than Clair Huxtable, according to an Associated Press article.
Phylicia Rashad played Clair on “The Cosby Show,” which aired on NBC from 1984-1992. Clair was a lawyer and mother of five. Her husband, Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable, was played by Bill Cosby.
Mrs. Cunningham (Marion Ross) of “Happy Days” placed second in the poll, followed by Marge Simpson (voiced by Julie Kavner) of “The Simpsons.”
“Happy Days,” set in 1950s Milwaukee and starring Henry Winkler as “The Fonz,” airs weekdays on TV Land at 11:00 a.m. ET. The show capsule at TV Land says that Mrs. Cunningham, “like all good TV Moms, spent her time in the kitchen.”
“The Simpsons,” still a first-run show, airs on FOX Sundays at 8:00 p.m. ET.
“The Cosby Show” airs on Nick at Nite in back-to-back episodes beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET.
TV Land is airing a “Mother of All Mothers-in-Law Marathon” on Mother’s Day (May 9). The cable channel will show eight episodes from the sit-com “Bewitched,” about a suburban witch named Samantha and her mortal husband, Darrin. The show aired from 1964-1972 and also featured meddling mother-in-law Endora (Agnes Moorehead).
The “Sweet on Mom” survey was conducted April 8-11 by the Opinion Research Corporation and was financed by the makers of Splenda artificial sweetener. The ORC polled 720 adults with a living mother or mother-in-law. Margin of error was plus or minus four points.
