Sept. 11, 2001, will go down in history as a tragic day for the United States.
Around 8:45 a.m., EST, an alleged hijacked passenger plane crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center. Shortly after, a second plane struck the north building.
News services also reported the crash of a third plane at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and a fourth plane downed south of Pittsburgh, Penn.
Both towers of the World Trade Center have collapsed and the loss of life in New York, Washington, D.C., and in Somerset County, Penn., is expected to be in the 10,000s.
Government officials are calling the tragedies acts of terrorism, and President Bush has said those responsible for this travesty will be punished.
