Trusting Grace: The Journey from Fear to Love by J. Claude Huguley and 101 Sparks of Inspiration: Scripture-Based Sermon Starters and Devotions by Maralene and Myles Wesner are now available from Nurturing Faith Books, the publishing imprint of Good Faith Media.
Drawing on the experiences and insights in his three decades serving as a hospital chaplain, Huguley discusses his journey from fear to love.
“There are two things to remember about God: First, there is a God; second, I am not God. These ‘two things’ are simple and profound, but easily forgotten. Forgetting them has consequences,” he writes. “Forgetting the ‘I’m not God,’ we try creating our own safety by exercising control over the world around us. With time, these strategies fail, and our relationships suffer. We create more fear for ourselves, adding to the fear in the world.”
Rather than persisting with approaches that do not work to alleviate our fear, Huguley offers readers another path to finding meaning and purpose by “realigning our lives with love and allowing the gifts of grace to transform destructive expressions of fear into personal healing and life-giving community.”
Huguley is a son, brother, spouse, father and grandfather and has been a hospital chaplain for 33 years. He is board certified with the Association of Professional Chaplains and endorsed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
101 Sparks of Inspiration is the Wesners’ fifth book published by Nurturing Faith Books, and it is designed with lay ministers and bivocational pastors in mind.
These dedicated leaders often work at secular jobs yet must prepare two or three sermons a week, which can be a real challenge. 101 Sparks of Inspiration saves leaders and teachers time, but still allows them to add their own special insights, develop their own applications and adapt the material to their own personal style.
The brief compositions in the book can stand alone as quick devotionals or can be used as “sermon starters” by providing suggested topics and outlines that include extensive scriptural research.
The Wesner are multi-talented teachers and prolific writers. They have published more than 150 audio-visual education aids and pioneered new reading methods with their Phonics in a Nutshell (1965). Noted for their no-nonsense style, clear illustrations and willingness to face controversial issues, they seek to be a bridge between the spiritual and the intellectual worlds.
Trusting Grace and 101 Sparks of Inspiration are both available in paperback for $18 each (including shipping) at GFM’s bookstore, and they will be available soon as an eBook at Amazon (Kindle) and Barnes and Noble (Nook).
