Flamy Grant is a Christian drag-queen singer-songwriter and worship artist.
By Derek Webb
Flamy Grant contains multitudes. Her very name is a layered symbol of her complexity, all the contradictions she holds together with silk, satin, and chiffon. She defies genre, category, and convention. Mostly, she’s beautiful, and she amplifies and scales that beauty in the soundtrack she writes for everyone who feels alone in their own complexity.
Maybe the most remarkable thing about Flamy Grant is how her immense talent as a singer and songstress tends to be the second thing you notice, how she’ll distract you with her knee-high boots and perfectly coiffed wig, while her beautifully disruptive poetry sneaks in through the back door. She also might be the hardest-working musician I’ve ever met.
Of the many gifts Flamy has given me, from lending her voice to my song, “Boys Will Be Girls,” to the many shows we’ve performed together, I am most grateful for her kindness and faithful friendship.
You’ll come for the fabulous looks and the shame-slaying songs, you’ll stay for the heart behind them.
