Election Day in America

Election Day in America is the moment when liberal democracy takes the stage for the entire world to witness. Millions of citizens come together to contribute to the country’s future — a future dependent on the citizenry’s intellectual and practical participation.

After the votes are tallied and a winner is declared, citizens will have made their choice. The country’s decision will have generational consequences, reverberating into the lives of our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Once America decides, the future of the country’s progress will be in the hands of the winning candidate and those around them. For some, that moment will be inspirational. For others, it will be demoralizing. For each, let us not forget to look across the aisle and see a fellow human.

However, after we cast our votes, we have one more decision: Will we allow that division to grow until it destroys the very fabric of our union, or will we attempt to find commonalities that move the country towards a more perfect union?  

At the end of the day (or whenever the winners are declared), let us remember the distinct honor and privilege we have to enact our right to cast a vote. Let us also recognize and respect the millions of citizens who voted differently. Let this recognition and respect be rooted in a mutual collective as citizens within a united government.  

As American citizens and participants in democracy, we are the stewards of our future. Our hope and prosperity depend on our seriousness in embracing this responsibility. Every citizen should take this responsibility seriously and cast their votes as their conscience dictates.  

Therefore, as Americans cast their votes for the country’s future, let us not miss the marvel of this moment.
