This summer, I am embarking on a new journey, an opportunity to learn and grow, a step into the corporate world. As I approached my senior year of college, I felt it was important to land an internship and potentially get my foot in the door.

Yet, questions loomed over my head: “Is this what God is calling me to do? How do I know I’m making the right decision?”

Last winter, I applied for internships, jobs, camps and more. Eventually, my resume crossed the desk of a construction company. I went through the series of interviews and eventually found myself across the table from two hiring directors.

I was extremely nervous, but also confident. I knew I had prepared well and trusted that God would guide me through. The interview went extremely well, and a few weeks later, they offered me an internship.

It was a very difficult decision, as I also had an offer to return to camp where I would be directly teaching God’s word and serving as a disciple. I prayed and asked for guidance on which path to take.

During this time, I looked back on a conversation I had with my dad about God’s plan for me and how I felt I was going through life without a clear purpose. I never really felt a calling to do any one thing specifically. He reminded me that it is very important to be where your feet are, be present for the people and things that surround you.

I began to see how I could be a disciple to the people closest to me.

I prayed. I struggled. I asked God for answers.

During that period, I began to feel a strong connection to Lexington, where I am a student at the University of Kentucky. I was growing in my faith in new ways. God was presenting new challenges and ways to minister to those around me.

I felt called to stay here and pursue the internship with all my heart. I’ve always felt that it’s essential to set up your future, and this felt like a crucial next step for me.

The first few weeks have been great, as I’ve learned new skills and applied what I’ve learned in school to real-world situations.

It’s essential to live in the present, recognizing that God’s calling can be right in front of us.

As 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your cares upon him, because he cares for us.” This verse has given me comfort and peace during these times of uncertainty. I am continuing to learn that following God will lead me exactly where I need to be.
