For 20 years until 2005, he wrote Bible study materials for LifeWay, the former Baptist Sunday School Board. After retiring in 2005 from the First Baptist Church of Bainbridge, Georgia, he moved to Ringgold, Georgia, on the Georgia-Tennessee border near Chattanooga.

Shortly after retirement, Leroy published Forgotten No Longer, the long-lost stories of Rev. Benjamin F. Munson, a slave ordained to the Baptist ministry shortly before the Civil War, about 1858-59, and of the house of worship in which he was ordained, which still serves as a house of worship.
In retirement, he has devoted himself to biblical studies and writing. Leroy previously authored The Jesus Lens: Bringing the Bible’s Story into Focus, published by Nurturing Faith in 2018.
For exercise, Leroy enjoys walking, road cycling (he has completed several “centuries” (100-mile rides), and landscape maintenance. He has been married for 57 years to the former Annette Scoggins, who wrote the online study guide for The Jesus Lens. He and Annette are members of the First Baptist Church of Chattanooga. They have two children, Kyle of Tampa, Florida, and Leigh Anne of East Ridge, Tennessee.
