Sandy Ovalle creates spaces where people can engage deeply with their identities and their faith as they pursue justice in their communities. Sandy is deeply grounded in her culture and lived experience. She is a gifted writer, thoughtful leader, and someone deeply passionate about cultivating environments where women of color lead the work of justice.

Sandy leads from a mindset of abundance and collaboration, constantly thinking about how to share resources and connect people, organizations, and communities in ways that allow everyone to benefit from shared wisdom. The organization I lead, and I personally, have been strengthened by Sandy’s investment.

She is an advocate, practitioner, poet, space-maker, and theologian. I count her as a comadre in this work. Sandy carries joy with her while also making space to pause, lament, and reflect. She creates spaces of safety where people can process, remember who they are, and reconnect with where they come from. Life flows in and through her, and communities across the nation have been made better because of Sandy.

Bethany Rivera Molinar is Executive Director of Ciudad Nueva Community Outreach in El Paso, Texas. She is a 2025 Good Faith Magazine ‘25 Who Inspire’ honoree.
