A recent Gallup survey taken between February 3-16 found Canada, Japan and Great Britain to be the countries with the highest favorability ratings among Americans. Canada received the highest ratings, with 89% of respondents identifying the northern neighbors as favorable. Japan and Great Britain came in at 86% and 84%, respectively.

The top countries’ ratings are relatively consistent along party lines, with an 8% or less gap between Republicans and Democrats who responded to the survey.

More than half (54%) of Americans view Israel favorably, but no other country on Gallup’s list has a more significant partisan gap. A third (33%) of Democrats surveyed have a favorable view of Israel, with 83% of Republicans holding a similar view.

Mexico’s favorability has the next most significant partisan gap, with 83% of Democrats and 47% of Republicans viewing the southern neighbors favorably.

Afghanistan (15% favorable), North Korea (14%), and Iran (13%) round out the bottom of the list. At just 7%, Iran is the least favored nation on Republicans’ list. 

Russia has a favorable view among 17% of Americans, with only 4% of Democrats and 21% of Republicans viewing them favorably. Among Democrats, Russia is the least favored nation on Gallup’s list.

Ukraine has been in a three-year war since being attacked by Russia in 2022. Slightly more than half (54%) of Republicans and 84% of Democrats view Ukraine favorably. In 2020, 57% of both Republicans and Democrats viewed Ukraine favorably.
