Throughout his career in student ministry and religious journalism, John Pierce began to notice a trend among Christians. The more they spoke about developing a “biblical worldview,” the less they seemed to talk about Jesus.
Before retiring from Good Faith Media (formerly Nurturing Faith), Pierce developed a plan to shift the emphasis toward creating what he calls a “Jesus worldview.” That vision became the Jesus Worldview Initiative, now housed at the Charlie Curb Center for Faith Leadership at Belmont University.
The initiative will hold its inaugural Jesus Worldview Conference in Nashville from October 13 to 15. The event, themed “Life Through a Jesus Lens,” will feature presentations from scholars, speakers and faith leaders. Music will be provided by Cindy Morgan, a Grammy-nominated and 14-time Dove Award-winning artist, along with a team of Nashville musicians.
Attendees will be invited to examine morality, scripture, justice and congregational life through what Pierce describes as a “Jesus worldview lens.” Featured speakers will include ethicist and scholar David Gushee, author Drew Hart and Belmont’s president, Greg Jones.
Pierce, recently named editor emeritus of Good Faith Magazine, described the conference as an “open-invitation gathering of those who share a common concern for and commitment to living in ways that reflect Jesus’ life and teachings.” He added that it aims to be “enjoyable and informative while inspiring hope in times when the Christian name is so often misused to advance or excuse ideologies that don’t align with Jesus’ call to compassion and faithfulness.”
