A Sermon for Every Sunday (ASFES) will be part of Good Faith Media’s (GFM) growing stable of platforms beginning in December 2024. This week, at GFM’s annual board meeting in Washington, D.C., ASFES co-founder Dr. Jim Somvervile signed an agreement transferring ASFES to GFM.

In his weekly ASFES e-newsletter, Somerville wrote: “It feels good because Good Faith Media is a great partner. GFM is a progressive Christian voice that has become increasingly ecumenical in its outreach, offering resources that support and encourage churches of every tradition.”

ASFES was founded in 2014 by Somerville and David Powers, president of Belltower Pictures, to serve churches that didn’t have or couldn’t afford a regular preacher. Their work has filled a crucial need and fostered a sense of unity and shared learning among diverse audiences.

Upon their launch, ASFES recorded sermons in high-definition video, providing world-class sermons following the Revised Common Lectionary that could be projected during worship or viewed for research purposes. Initially, the sermons were available to rent ($4.99) or buy ($9.99) to recover production costs. That was the business model for more than a year.

However, a generous gift from an anonymous donor made it possible to offer the sermons free of charge. They are currently used by small churches, house churches, Bible studies, small groups, Sunday school classes, and individuals viewing them on laptops, tablets and smartphones. This has created a sense of community and shared learning among audiences.

Good Faith Media will continue offering the decade-long catalog of sermons and produce new sermons delivered by GFM’s growing network of pastors, scholars and preachers. These resources will remain free of charge because of the generosity of GFM’s supporters, who believe people of faith are called to stand up, speak out and step forward.

Your financial support will be invaluable as GFM carries ASFES forward. If you believe in the power of these world-class sermons to inspire and educate, we invite you to contribute. Your donation will help us continue the legacy of ASFES at GFM beginning the First Sunday of Advent, 2024.

Good Faith Media is excited to offer ASFES as another platform for transformational faith. Preaching has long been an essential tool for people of faith as they advocate for a better world. From Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount” to Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop,” sermons connect humanity with the larger community, both divine and human.

Good preaching invites people into a spiritual conversation between the preacher and listener. Sermons allow audiences to consume sacred language to challenge the mind and inspire the heart in hopes of pursuing a better self and world.

Good Faith Media is committed to bringing the best seasoned and emerging preachers to viewers each week as we continue the legacy entrusted to us. As GFM travels the world covering events and telling stories, we will record sermons, bringing the very best voices within progressive Christianity to our audience each week.

In addition to offering sermons from progressive Christian preachers, we hope to add an interfaith component. Broadening minds and hearts will allow our traditional viewers to learn spiritual lessons from other faith leaders and traditions.

Christians are part of an immense faith community that is attempting to make the world a better place for the common good. Opening our ears, minds and hearts to their wisdom will make us better disciples.

Good Faith Media will produce and release the first set of sermons on November 24, 2024, just in time for the First Sunday of Advent, which falls on December 1.  We are honored to take on this responsibility and hope ASFES remains a trusted and reliable resource for churches and individuals.
