Ahead of an anticipated announcement in the coming weeks from the Trump Administration regarding the potential Israeli annexation of the West Bank, a coalition of Christian evangelicals is calling on the president to honor what they refer to as “the Jewish people’s inalienable right to the Biblical Heartland of Israel.”
American Christian Leaders for Israel (ACLI) held a press conference on Tuesday night at the annual National Christian Broadcasters Convention to announce their “Resolution on Judea and Samaria.” The resolution reflects the Zionist belief that the modern Israeli state is inextricably tied to the ancient, Biblical nation of Israel and, therefore, that God’s promise of the land to the Israeli people in ancient scriptures is still in effect.
In addition to the religious connection, the resolution draws on the continual presence of a Jewish community in the region. No mention is made of the continual Arab presence in the land.
The resolution also states that “Jewish presence and sovereignty over Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria has brought tangible blessings to the land, as foretold in Scripture, improving the standard of living, safeguarding religious freedoms and sites, preserving the region’s history, and enhancing the lives of all its inhabitants.”
The ACLI’s statement comes amid a fragile ceasefire in the war in Gaza that began after the brutal October 7, 2023, attack on Israel from Hamas militants that killed over 1,100 people and around 250 Israeli hostages were taken. In response, Israel has leveled unprecedented destruction of Gaza, resulting in the deaths of around 50,000 Palestinians, most of which were civilians.
Last month, President Trump signaled his support for displacing all remaining Palestinians from Gaza. It is unclear if he will announce a similar plan for those in the West Bank.
ACLI is an initiative of the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem, founded in 1980 to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city.
