According to the March Harvard-Harris poll, President Trump’s approval rating for all key issues in the 2024 election has fallen slightly. The survey was administered between March 26 and 27, a week before Trump’s announced tariffs prompted world markets to freefall.

More than half (53%) said they support the president’s work on immigration, down from 56% the month before. Immigration is the only issue on which the president breaks the 50% threshold.

On the economy, 45% of those surveyed support what Trump is doing, down from 49% in February. Though still low, this is up from the 27% approval President Biden received for his handling of the economy at a similar point in his presidency.

Trump’s work on reducing inflation received support from 43% of respondents, down from 45% in February.

The president’s overall favorability in the poll was 47%, the highest among all key figures that survey participants were asked about. Vladimir Putin was lowest on the list, with an 11% favorability rating.

Except for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is viewed favorably by 44%, no other Republican in Trump’s orbit approaches his public approval. Other administration officials the survey asked about included Vice President J.D. Vance (40%), Elon Musk (39%), Secretary of State Marco Rubio (33%) and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth (26%).

Survey participants were split on Trump’s tariffs, with 51% saying they would be beneficial and 49% saying they would end up damaging the U.S. economy.
